Swag For Rail Project: ChumpCar World Series

ChumpCar World Series: Pacific NW Style

Walking out of ChumpCar World Series Race Central Sunday afternoon on an all-weather Labor Day weekend, I encounter The Ridge track workers carrying an aluminum rail.

Now, who of you would not process that something grand is about to happen?

A question proffered to filming for posterity received a resounding, “Yes! C’mon!”

Giggles surface while walking the Paddock and watching these guys hunt down the lucky recipients: The Great Canadian Oil Burners, Team # 411.

It's Ours?

It’s Ours?

Arriving at their pit stall brought all sorts of incredulous smiles and exclamations, “We actually get to keep it?”

It’s yours, you ‘bought’ it!” came a wink and a nod toward Turn 5’s Armco aluminum barrier, bump-tested in Saturday’s afternoon endurance Race #2.

“Wow! Let me get straps for the trailer!”

Signed, Sealed and Delivered!

Signed, Sealed and Delivered!

You think they’ll see their way fit to letting us through the border?”

Prior to signing their aluminum contract, the entire team and their fans had recently returned from a Race Central foray, buying out every last item of The Ridge seasonal swag that fit.

It seemed a win-win-situation and a grand exchange!

Needless to say, ChumpCar World Series rocks!

My co-worker is related, through marriage, to the missing woman who resided in Dundee, OR with her two small children and a loving husband. The moment officials announced her as missing, the news hit the tabloids and the social media market. As the story wanes, I make the mistake of reading the comments in the news articles. People are unbelievably cruel and unjust with their comments and speculations. It makes me sad and angry.

The Gaza strip, the Ukraine, the Ebola outbreak, the immense suffering affecting people the world over inundates us each and every day. It can really be depressing, if you absorb too much of it.
We all find coping mechanisms. Some of us get involved to change the world, others to affect a small portion within their community, and then, there are those who come together to enjoy a sport or passion, reveling in the subsequent endorphins and the laughter that accompany it.

ChumpCar World Series is such a place.

People who, despite all their other concerns and all their life’s upheavals, spend the money and time to meet up for a weekend and perform in an endurance road race, enjoying a moment of competition and camaraderie.

It’s fast and it’s cheap.

So, while you’ve been distracted with the World News or the grand athletic pitching sensation that is Mo’ne Davis, six ChumpCar World Series have taken place in this past month; one at Portland International Raceway (Portland, OR), one at Brainerd International Raceway, another at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), Las Vegas Motor Speedway, AutoDrome Saint-Eustache (Quebec, Canada), and Michigan International Speedway. It’s a busy schedule with over 50 road courses running this season in the USA and Canada.

And, the best part?

I play registrar in the ChumpCar World Series Western Region!
It’s an exceptionally good position to play.

The racers here in the Pacific Northwest are a remarkable group. Even with engine blow outs and gear mutilation, folks end the event smiling. In the Pits, teams help each other out with spare parts and labor. Laughing at the trials and tribulations and encouraging their competitors back on track, phenomenal feats are accomplished in less time than it takes a race car to run one lap around the road course.
With every race event, one or two more teams join in the fray.

Next event in the Pacific NW?

The Ridge MotorSports Park in Shelton, WA  August 30th – September 1, 2014.

Stay tuned!
Or, better yet?

Come join in the fun!
